October 8, 2009 - KFC and Chintsa

We were sad to leave Coffee Bay and the friendly folk at Sugarloaf, but we had to continue our drive south towards our next stop, Chintsa. On the way we finally tried KFC, which is apparently the most popular fast-food joint in South Africa. You wouldn't believe where KFCs pop up here, but it seems like if a village has more than 20 people, there is a KFC... Horrible terrible disgusting food. The experience left Sami feeling sick and he vowed to never do that again and to start eating healthy again.

When we arrived at Chintsa we checked into Buccaneers, which is almost like a resort for backpackers. Nice big pool, beach volleyball court, jacuzzi and sauna, big bar, and right on the beach. We met some of the staff right away and enjoyed some complimentary wine while we watched them play volleyball. Sami had pears for dinner (remembering the god awful KFC and unable to eat anything else), while Gen made a very appetizing salad.

Gen crashed early (she woke up at 4:30AM and could not go back to sleep) so Sami headed out to the bar in the evening and chatted with some of the other guests, including a group of American college students who were doing a school project near Cape Town.
