October 12, 2009 - The Ultra-Ultra Discounted Wetsuit!

We spent the morning shopping for a surfing wetsuit for Sami. We went to a number of different shops to see what was available and finally settled on a mid-range Billabong wetsuit. The wetsuit happenned to be on special, but Sami wanted a brighter color to look less like a seal or dolphin (i.e. shark food), so the store made an agreement with another store so he could trade this wetsuit in for a color of his choice. We went to the cash to pay, and surprise, surprise, visa blocked the transaction yet again! We went back to the lodge to sort this out with the bank and when we returned to the shop to buy the suit, they realized that the promotion was over and that the price should be higher than what was advertised on the tag. As their system was down, they never got the email telling them that the price had return to normal and since Sami had seen the promotional price, they honoured the lower price.

We went to the other shop to exchange the suit and through some strange pricing logic in their system, Sami was issued an additional 100R credit. Sami tried to explain to them that he was not entitled to this money, but they just kept saying "this is how the system works, we how you 100R". They suggested that he gets socks - the only thing in the store worth 100R - which he did! All in all, Sami saved about $70!

While Gen was reading a very inspiring book, Three cups of tea, Sami went surfing to try his new wetsuit and finally managed to control himself while standing up on the board.

To celebrate this achievement, we ate at 3 Fat Fish again! We had yummy steaks and not 2 but 3 desserts thanks to some mistake in the kitchen!

Today was the day of freebies!!

Editor's note: The most ironic part of the story is that Sami's new wetsuit turned out to be defective, so even after using it for a day, he managed to convince them to exchange it for the original suit he bought. Their system was down again so they didn't realize that he owed them 2 pairs of Billabong socks!!
